Slipknot, an American heavy metal band from Des Moines, Iowa, was formed in 1995 by percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan and vocalist Anders Colsefni. The group's early years were marked by turmoil and tragedy, including the death of original vocalist Colsefni, who passed away in 1995 due to a combination of accidental drowning and methamphetamine intoxication.

The band's debut album, Iowa, was released in 1999 and received widespread critical acclaim for its unique blend of aggressive riffs, pounding drums, and screaming vocals. The album's success was fueled by the hit single "Wait and Bleed," which gained significant airplay on MTV and radio stations.

Over the years, Slipknot has undergone several lineup changes, with Crahan being the sole constant member. Despite these changes, the band has continued to produce innovative and intense music, including their self-titled debut album, Slipknot, in 1999, and subsequent releases such as Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) in 2004 and .5: The Gray Chapter in 2014.
