Summoning is a German extreme metal band formed in 1989 by Andreas "Andi" Botthof and Oliver "Olly" Kempf. The duo's early work was characterized by fast-paced black metal riffs and screams, but as the years progressed, they incorporated more complex song structures and atmospheric elements into their sound.
Summoning's most critically acclaimed album is likely Solaren, released in 1996, which showcased a greater emphasis on melody and texture. The band's later work, including albums like Minima Moralia (2003) and Ondine (2010), has been praised for its introspective lyrics and expansive soundscapes.
Despite the duo's decision to retire from music in 2015, Summoning's legacy continues to inspire a new generation of extreme metal musicians. Their unique blend of aggression and atmosphere remains a staple of the genre, and their influence can be heard in bands across the globe.
