Formed in 1968 in Wolverhampton, England, Witchfinder General was a pioneering band in the development of the heavy metal and NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal) genres. The band's music was characterized by its dark and occult themes, as well as its fast-paced rhythms and guitar-driven sound.
Witchfinder General released several albums throughout their career, including "Invisible Empire" and "Don't Burn the Witch". Their music was praised for its raw energy and intensity, and they were known for their powerful live performances. Despite their relatively short career, Witchfinder General left a lasting impact on the heavy metal scene.
The band's lead vocalist, Bruce Bankhead, is often credited with developing the distinctive vocal style that would later influence many other metal bands. Witchfinder General's music also had a significant influence on the development of black metal and death metal sub-genres.
