Brenda Lee is an American singer and songwriter known for her powerful voice and hit songs from the 1950s to the 1970s. Born Brenda Mae Tarpley on December 11, 1944, in rural Laurel Hill, Tennessee, she began singing at a young age and was discovered by country music star Johnny Bond.
Lee's biggest hits include "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree," which has become a holiday classic, as well as "I'm Sorry" and "I Want to Be Wanted." Her unique voice, often described as a cross between Patsy Cline and Peggy Sue Gerron, helped her to establish herself as one of the most popular country-pop singers of her time.
Awards and accolades have followed Lee throughout her career. She was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2002 and has won several Grammy Awards nominations.
