David Warren "Dave" Brubeck was an American jazz pianist and composer. He is considered one of the most important and influential musicians of his generation, and was known for his unique style that blended classical and folk elements with a strong sense of rhythmic experimentation. Born on December 6, 1920, in Concord, California, Brubeck began playing piano at age four and went on to study at Mills College, where he earned his master's degree.

Brubeck's most famous work is likely his iconic album "Time Out," released in 1959. This groundbreaking album featured the hit single "Take Five," which became a huge success and helped establish Brubeck as a major force in modern jazz. The album itself was praised for its innovative use of time signatures and exotic rhythms, and it went on to sell over a million copies in the United States alone.

In addition to his work with his own quartet, Brubeck also collaborated with a wide range of other musicians, including Paul Desmond, Tommy Flanagan, and Louis Armstrong. He continued to compose and perform until his death on December 5, 2012, at the age of 91.
