Nana Mouskouri is a Greek singer and politician who rose to fame in the 1960s with her unique voice and style. Born Ioanna Moscopoulou on October 3, 1934, in Chania, Greece, she began singing at a young age and was discovered by Greek composer Manolis Chourlitis.

Mouskouri's breakthrough came in 1958 when she won the International Queen of Song competition held in Barcelona. She went on to record over 200 albums and sell more than 300 million records worldwide, earning her the nickname "The Queen of Folk." Her music often featured traditional Greek songs as well as popular standards from around the world.

In addition to her successful music career, Mouskouri has also been involved in politics. She served as a member of the European Parliament from 1994 to 2004 and was a vocal advocate for human rights and women's issues. Despite her many accomplishments, Mouskouri remains humble and dedicated to her craft, continuing to perform and record music to this day.
