Born Harold Lloyd Jenkins on September 1, 1933, in Helena, Arkansas, Conway Twitty began his music career in the early 1950s as a disc jockey and musician in his hometown.

In the late 1950s, Twitty moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where he began to establish himself as a singer-songwriter. He released several singles on small labels before signing with MGM Records in 1965. His first big hit came in 1967 with "Harper Valley PTA," which reached number one on the country charts and launched his successful music career.

Twitty went on to release many more hits, including "It's Only Make Believe," "Lonely Blue Boy," and "You've Never Been This Far Before." He was also a prolific songwriter, penning hits for other artists like Hank Williams Jr. and Elvis Presley. Conway Twitty passed away on June 18, 1993, but his music remains popular to this day, and he is still considered one of the greatest country singers of all time.
