Stanley Albert "Stan" Getz (February 10, 1927 – March 15, 1991) was an American jazz saxophonist. Known as "The Fat Man," he was a prominent figure in the development of cool jazz and Latin jazz. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Getz moved to Los Angeles at a young age and began playing the clarinet before switching to the saxophone.

Getz's early career was marked by his association with Dizzy Gillespie and other bebop musicians. He developed a unique sound characterized by his smooth, melodic phrasing and a distinctive vibrato. In the 1950s, Getz began exploring Latin rhythms and collaborated with artists such as Charlie Byrd and Luiz Bonfá. This led to the creation of the bossa nova style, which became popular in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

Throughout his career, Getz was known for his versatility and ability to blend different musical styles. He worked with a wide range of artists, from traditional jazz musicians like Roy Eldridge to pop stars like Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald. Despite his passing in 1991, Getz's music remains popular today, and he is widely regarded as one of the most important and influential saxophonists in jazz history.
