Filter is an American electronic music project founded by James Murphy, who is also known for his work as a member of LCD Soundsystem. With Filter, Murphy creates dark, moody, and atmospheric soundscapes that blend elements of industrial, techno, and post-punk music.

The project's early releases, including the albums Short Bus (1995) and Jesu/Sick (1998), were marked by their heavy use of samples and distorted vocals. As Filter evolved, so did its sound, incorporating more traditional instruments and a greater emphasis on melody.

In recent years, Filter has continued to experiment with different styles, incorporating elements of rock and pop into their music. The album Missing Person (2013) was praised for its introspective lyrics and soaring vocal hooks, while the project's more recent releases have seen Murphy exploring themes of love, relationships, and social commentary.
