Genesis is a British rock band that formed in London in 1967. The band's original lineup included Peter Gabriel on vocals and flute, Tony Banks on keyboards, Mike Rutherford on bass and guitar, Anthony Phillips on guitar, and Chris Stewart on drums. After several lineup changes, the band stabilized with Phil Collins on drums and vocals, and Steve Hackett on guitar.
Genesis is known for their eclectic blend of rock, pop, and progressive music styles. Their early work was heavily influenced by classical music, as evidenced by their debut album "From Genesis to Revelation" in 1969. As the band evolved, they incorporated a wide range of musical influences, from jazz to folk to opera.
Some of Genesis' most popular albums include "Selling England by the Pound", "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway", and "Invisible Touch". The band has had numerous hit singles, including "I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)", "Supper's Ready", and "Land of Confusion". Despite their commercial success, Genesis is perhaps best known for their iconic live performances, which often featured elaborate stage sets and theatrical storytelling.
