Born on May 28, 1944, in Atlanta, Georgia, Knight began singing at a young age and was discovered by Ray Charles when she was just 12 years old. She went on to release her debut single "Every Beat of My Heart" in 1961, which became a huge hit and launched her career.

Gladys Knight is perhaps best known for her work with the Pips, the group she formed in the late 1950s.
