Igor Stravinsky was a Russian composer of international fame, widely recognized for his influential and innovative contributions to classical music. Born on June 17, 1882, in Oranienbaum, Russia (now Lomonosov), he began studying music at the age of nine under the tutelage of his father, a famous bass singer. This early start would lay the foundation for Stravinsky's remarkable career.

Stravinsky's most iconic works include The Rite of Spring, which premiered in 1913 and revolutionized modern music with its dissonant harmonies and complex rhythms. He also composed numerous ballets, operas, and orchestral pieces, including the celebrated Symphony in C Major. Throughout his life, Stravinsky was a devoted teacher and mentor to many young composers, including Olivier Messiaen and Darius Milhaud.

In 1939, Stravinsky immigrated to the United States, where he continued composing and teaching. He became an American citizen in 1945 and was appointed as a professor at Harvard University's Department of Music. Despite his many accolades and awards, including four Grammy Awards, Stravinsky remained humble and dedicated to his craft until his passing on April 6, 1971.
