Jeanette Stephens "Jo" Stafford was an American popular music singer and a member of the influential country-pop trio The Pied Pipers, along with Matt Mattox and Hal Hopper. Born on February 12, 1917, in Coalinga, California, Stafford began her singing career in the 1930s as part of the group The Stafford Sisters, alongside her sisters Christine and Dorothy.

In the early 1950s, Stafford transitioned to a solo career, releasing several successful singles, including "Shrimp Boats" and "You Belong to Me". Her smooth, velvety voice and versatility in singing various genres, from country to pop to jazz, made her one of the most popular female vocalists of the era. Her hits also included "Make Him Wait", "Tennessee Waltz", and "I'll Never Get Out of This World Alive".

Throughout her illustrious career, Stafford received numerous awards and accolades, including multiple Grammy nominations and wins. She was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1979 and the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998. Stafford continued to perform and record until her retirement from music in the late 1980s.
