Mike Bloomfield was an American musician and composer best known for his work as a guitarist and singer-songwriter. Born on July 28, 1943, in Oakland, California, Bloomfield began his musical journey in the early 1960s, playing blues and folk music in San Francisco's North Beach district.

Bloomfield gained widespread recognition with his collaboration on the album "Electric Flag" with guitarist Harvey Mandel. This led to him becoming a member of the band Jefferson Airplane, where he played guitar on their iconic album "Surrealistic Pillow". His unique blend of blues, rock, and folk influenced many musicians, including Bob Dylan, who invited Bloomfield to join his band for several live performances.

Throughout his career, Mike Bloomfield released numerous solo albums, exploring various musical styles. He also worked with other notable artists such as John Lee Hooker, B.B. King, and Creedence Clearwater Revival's Tom Fogerty. Despite health issues and personal struggles, Bloomfield continued to create music until his passing on February 12, 2011.
