R.E.M.

Formed in Athens, Georgia in 1980, R.E.M. was one of the most influential and critically acclaimed bands of the late 20th century. With a distinctive sound that blended elements of rock, folk, and psychedelia, the band released a string of highly successful albums throughout the 1980s and 1990s, including Pisces Iscariot, Lifes Rich Pageant, and Bug.

R.E.M.'s music was characterized by the introspective and often enigmatic lyrics of lead singer Michael Stipe, as well as the innovative guitar work of Peter Buck. The band's sound was also marked by a strong emphasis on rhythm and texture, courtesy of bassist Mike Mills and drummer Bill Berry. Over the course of their career, R.E.M. released 15 studio albums, sold over 85 million records worldwide, and won numerous awards, including a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album.
