Savatage was an American heavy metal band formed in 1978 by guitarist Joey DiMaio and bassist Chris Caffery, with lead vocalist Jon Oliva. The band's name is a portmanteau of the words "save" and "avage," reflecting their blend of melodic sensibilities and aggressive riffing. Over the course of their career, Savatage released 14 studio albums, including fan favorites like "Poets of the Fall" and "Edge of Thorns."

Savatage's sound was characterized by Oliva's soaring vocals and DiMaio's intricate guitar work, which drew comparisons to bands like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. The band's music often explored themes of love, loss, and social commentary, with songs like "All That Remains" and "When the Morning Comes" showcasing their ability to craft anthemic choruses and memorable hooks.

Despite their impressive discography and dedicated fan base, Savatage never achieved mainstream success.
