Skeeter Davis was an American country music singer-songwriter known for her powerful voice and hit songs like "The End of the World" and "The Housewife's Lament". Born Mary Frances Thompson on December 30, 1929, in Dry Ridge, Kentucky, Davis began singing at a young age and eventually formed a duo with her husband, Ted Edwards. The couple released several successful singles before Davis went solo, releasing her debut album in 1960.

Davis' music was a mix of traditional country, honky-tonk, and early rockabilly styles. Her songs often dealt with themes of love, heartbreak, and everyday life, which resonated with audiences across the United States.
