Smokey Robinson is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer who has been a driving force behind Motown's success for over five decades. Born William Robinson Jr. on February 19, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, he began his music career as the lead singer of The Miracles, one of the most successful R&B acts of all time. With hits like "You've Really Got a Hold on Me" and "Ooo Baby Baby," The Miracles became known for their smooth harmonies and catchy pop-soul sound.

In 1969, Robinson left The Miracles to pursue a solo career, releasing his debut album, Smokey, which featured the hit single "The Way You Do the Things You Do." He went on to release numerous successful albums throughout the 1970s and 1980s, including A Thing Called Love and Crazy Like Love. As a songwriter, Robinson has penned hits for The Temptations ("My Girl"), Marvin Gaye ("What's Going On"), and Stevie Wonder ("Tracks of My Tears"), among others.

Smokey Robinson was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987 and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999. He has continued to release new music and tour over the years, earning him a reputation as one of the most influential and enduring figures in R&B and pop music.
