T. Rex

With his powerful androgynous voice, Marc Bolan's alter ego T. Rex was a key figure in the UK's glam rock movement of the 1970s. Born Mark Feld in London in 1947, Bolan began his music career as a teenager, playing in various bands before forming T. Rex in 1968.

The band's early work was heavily influenced by psychedelic rock and blues, with hits like "Debora" and "King of the Rumbling Spires" showcasing their ability to craft catchy, laid-back tunes. As the decade progressed, T. Rex evolved into a more glam-oriented sound, characterized by Bolan's distinctive vocals and the band's theatrical live performances.

T. Rex's commercial peak came in the early 1970s with hits like "Get It On (Bang a Gong)" and "Jeepster", which became staples of FM radio playlists. Despite his untimely death at the age of 29, Bolan's legacy as T. Rex has endured, influencing generations of musicians and inspiring continued fascination with the era he helped define.
