The Cramps Vinyl Records: Punk's Most Unhinged Heroes
The Cramps were a punk rock band that defied categorization, blending elements of garage rock, psychobilly, and primitive rockabilly to create a sound that was equal parts chaotic and catchy. Formed in 1976 by frontman Lux Interior and guitarist Bryan Gregory, the band's music was characterized by Interior's snarling vocals and the duo's frenetic energy.
Despite their DIY ethos and anti-establishment attitude, The Cramps managed to release a string of influential albums throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s, including "Songs the Lord Taught Us" (1979) and "Gravest Hits" (1980). Their music was a staple of the nascent punk rock scene, influencing bands like The Ramones, The Damned, and The Stray Cats.
In the years following Lux Interior's death in 2009, The Cramps' cult status only grew, with fans around the world continuing to celebrate their unique sound and irreverent style.
