The Shangri-Las

The Shangri-Las were a girl group from New York City that formed in 1963. Consisting of sisters Mary Weiss and Betty Weiss, along with their friend Marge Ganser, they are best known for their distinctive harmonies and iconic hits like "Remember (Walking in the Sand)" and "Leader of the Pack". Their music was a blend of doo-wop, pop, and rock 'n' roll, which helped define the sound of early 1960s girl groups.

The Shangri-Las were also known for their bold and provocative lyrics, which often dealt with themes of teenage angst, rebellion, and romance. Their songs were often characterized by memorable hooks, lush harmonies, and a raw, emotional intensity that set them apart from other girl groups of the time.
