The Supremes were an American vocal group formed in Detroit, Michigan in 1959. The original lineup consisted of Diana Ross and two other singers, Florence Ballard and Mary Wilson. The group was one of the most successful and influential musical acts of all time, with a string of hit singles and albums that helped to define the sound of Motown.
The Supremes' early success was largely due to their unique harmonies and Ross's powerful lead vocals. Their first few hits, including "Where Did Our Love Go" and "Baby Love", were massive successes, and they quickly became one of the top acts at Motown Records. The group's popularity continued throughout the 1960s, with hits like "Stop! In the Name of Love" and "You Keep Me Hangin' On".
In the late 1960s, Ross left the group to pursue a solo career, and was replaced by Cindy Birdsong. Although the group's sound and style changed slightly without Ross, they continued to have success with songs like "Someday We'll Be Together" and "The Fools Fall in Love". The Supremes disbanded in 1977, but their legacy as one of the greatest vocal groups of all time has endured.
