"Throbbing Gristle was a British avant-garde music and visual arts group formed in 1976 by Genesis P-Orridge, Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson, Cosey Fanni Tutti, and Chris & Celia Cartwright. Initially conceived as an experimental audio project, the group's work soon expanded to include video art, performance, and installations.
Their music was characterized by its use of noise, loops, and found sounds, which often incorporated elements of industrial music, electronic experimentation, and post-punk. Throbbing Gristle's innovative approach to sound and visual art challenged the boundaries of what was considered "music" at the time, earning them a reputation as one of the most influential and groundbreaking groups of their era.
In 1981, Genesis P-Orridge and Cosey Fanni Tutti disbanded Throbbing Gristle to form Psychic TV, another influential group known for their experimental music and multimedia performances. The legacy of Throbbing Gristle continues to inspire new generations of artists, musicians, and provocateurs, cementing their status as true pioneers in the realm of avant-garde culture.
